Haringey Council staff have the 'Wow' factor

VALUED Haringey Council staff have been honoured for the fantastic work they do in helping the borough to run smoothly.

A youth worker, occupational therapist, librarian, call centre worker, disabled persons' day centre staff and a porter were just a few staff members to receive certificates at the Wow Award ceremony.

Up to 2,500 nominations were received by members of the public in praise of those who go the extra mile in their every day work.

As well as awards for individual staff, certificates went to all staff at the Cranwood care home, Osborne Grove nursing home and the Winkfield day centre.

One nominator for the Cranwood team said: "We only have words of gratitude and admiration for the way in which the carers carry out an unenviable, difficult and sometimes thankless task."

Councillor Kaushika Amin, cabinet member for community cohesion and involvement, said: "These awards show that Haringey is full of staff who are committed to providing a high quality, personal service to the people they’re in contact with day in, day out.

"It’s fantastic that we have received nominations not only for the obvious front line services, like libraries and the customer service centres, but for staff in more specialised service areas. The awards give a real flavour of just how many services the council provides for local people."

Nominations are independently accredited, evaluated and awarded by the national WOW organisation set up to keep staff motivated and as a reminder of the valid contribution they make to councils.
