Haringey's young sporting talent heads to mini-Olympics


A TEAM of youth athletes from Haringey will head to Crystal Palace today for the annual London Youth Games.

A series of tournaments have preceded the two-day competition with the borough's junior sport stars showing great promise.

Both of Haringey's boys and girls basketball teams are through to the last four. Competitors in tennis and angling are through to the last six.

Other events where the Haringey team could claim a medal include archery, badminton, cycling, boys football, netball, girls rugby union, and swimming, weightlifting and athletics.

Haringey's volleyball, table tennis and squash teams did not qualify for the finals and had no entries for hockey or karate.

Disability sports have also been completed with commendable performances in athletics, boccia and girls and boys mild learning difficulties football.

Haringey came 11th at the mini-Olympics last year.
