'Super-fast' internet hits Muswell Hill

MUSWELL Hill will be the first of only two UK locations to enjoy new super fast broadband starting today.

Along with Whitchurch, near Cardiff, Muswell Hill residents and businesses will get access to next generation broadband as the pilot is launched by BT.

The new service uses fibre-optic technology which allows transmission over longer distances and at higher speed.

In the first phase of the project, the "super-fast" broadband, provided by BT Openreach will be available for 15,000 customers to test.

The new service will offer internet users speeds of up to 40Mbs for downloads and a standard upload speed will reach 2Mbs - 10 times faster than typical existing broadband connections.

Other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who will soon also offer the connection include Carphone Warehouse, O2, Sky and BT Wholesale.
