PUPILS from Haringey's primary schools got a lesson in facing the harsh realities of life to help prepare them for secondary school.
The two-week Junior Citizens programme was held at White Hart Lane Stadium to allow 10 and 11-year-olds to learn about health, safety and crime prevention through role play.
It aimed to teach the Year 6 pupils how to deal with challenges they may face as they become young adults including bullying, knife crime and how to avoid getting involved in antisocial behaviour.
The pupils were taught vital skills such as how to report a crime, what to do if they are approached or attacked by a stranger and how to put someone in the recovery position.
Haringey Borough Commander Chief Superintendent Dave Grant said: "This is a wonderful scheme, providing a significant number of young people from schools across the borough with the opportunity to develop skills to deal with some of the challenges that they may face as they move to secondary school and become responsible young adults.
"I hope the young people taking part enjoy learning in such a high-profile venue and that each time they see White Hart Lane Stadium in the media, they recall their experience with pride."
More than 1,200 pupils took part and received a certificate and goody bag for participating.
Officers from the Haringey police Safer Schools Unit worked together with Haringey Council, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, EDF Energy Networks, Transport for London and Tottenham Hotspur Football Foundation to organise the event.
