RISING hip hop stars Chipmunk and Wretch 32 — both from Tottenham — will be pitted against each other to win a music award.

Former A-Level student Chipmunk, who attended Haringey Sixth Form Centre, in White Hart Lane, and lesser-known Wretch 32 are both nominees in the urban/garage/grime category of the 2009 Mp3 Music Awards.

Chipmunk is nominated for his latest single Diamond Rings which is currently riding high in the charts at number six.

Wretch 32 has been nominated for his tune Superhero. The pair are not the only raw urban talent to emerge from the borough with rappers Pyrelli and Sway, who started his career in a Tottenham-based rap group, paving the way for them.

Soul singers Adele, Lemar and Keisha White also hail from the area.

And singing diva Leona Lewis, who found fame on ITV X Factor, attended John Loughborough School in Holcome Road.

Now in its third year the awards pay homage to the music stars and budding talent who are making waves on mp3 players — the format of choice for music lovers.
