FIREFIGHTERS rescued 14 people from a burning building in Green Lanes last night many of whom were nearing unconsciousness.
Men, women and children were all led to safety using ladders after the fire broke out just after 11pm.
One resucer at the scene said: "When we arrived many people were at the upper windows getting ready to jump. We arrived in the nick of time.
"They must have been grateful to see us."
Paramedics treated several people who had been injured and had suffered smoke inhalation.
The bustling Harringay road was closed between the junction with Allison Road and Effingham Road while the rescue was underway.
