Protest march against hospital cuts

Hundreds of people are marching through north London in anger at possible closures of hospital services.

The protest march, currently leaving Holloway heading towards the Whittington Hospital, is calling for no cuts to Accident and Emergency departments at north London hospitals.

NHS London is planning to cut A and E from the Whittington, as well as Chase Farm and either Barnet or North Middlesex hospitals, they say, and argue it would have a devastating effect on health care in the capital.

Hundreds from across Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Islington and beyond have turned out to support the protest, which is also calling for protection for maternity and childrens services.

The march is due end at the Whittington with a host of speeches from politicians from across the political spectrum and from health groups.

Can't get over the vast amount of litter that gets dropped around Cockfosters station and down Mount Pleasant, dumped into the shrubberies... Council cleansing can only do so much. And whilst i'm groaning, just notice so many delapidated fences, walls n front gardens which are making E.Barnet look such a mess. If Scandanavia, Singapore and many other European countries can keep their streets clean surely we can too. If we took care of our own front garden and the patch of pavement beyond. I know I sound grouchy but with spring on its way, wouldn't it be good to have a street spring clean.....any ideas?
