COURT staff and Job Centre Plus employees in Haringey will picket today and tomorrow over cuts to redundancy pay-outs.
The national strike, called by the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS), means staff at the Wood Green and Tottenham branches of the employment and at office workers at Wood Green Crown Court and Haringey magistrates, service will strike for 48 hours.
The dispute is over changes to the civil service compensation scheme which will see staff lose up to a third of their entitlements and could lead to job cuts, the union said.
Andy Lawson, union branch organiser of DWP North London PCS, based in Wood Green, said: "We are on strike today and tomorrow because the Government are trying to put the axe to civil servants as they have to higher education.
"If these cuts go through it makes job losses and privatisation of the civil service more likely and will have an impact on some of those most vulnerable in society."
