CHILDHOOD games, a danceathon and a good, old school disco have helped Tottenham primary school pupils raise up to £3,500 to help the Haiti relief effort.

Pupils at St Mary's Priory, in Hermitage Road, were so moved by the horrifying scenes emerging in the wake of the earthquake that struck the Caribbean country that they pleaded with teachers to let them help.

Each class worked on their own project to raise money until including a fashion show, a sponsored spelling bee and a toy donation.

And the group effort has amounted to £3,500 that will be used to help survivors of the quake.

Councillor Lorna Reith, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "These children have raised an incredible amount of money.

"The generosity of these children and their families will help many people whose lives have been devastated by the tragedy in Haiti."
