A SAFER roads project wich resulted in a ten per cent decrease in accidents has scooped a transport award.
Haringey Council's successful Sustainable Transport service won the Transport Team/Partnership of the Year at the London Transport Awards last week.
The awards honours the best and brightest projects across the capital.
The Haringey team, which worked with Edmonton's Islamic Centre and Enfield Council, beat 11 other shortlisted entries to win the award for its road safety education work aimed at ethnic minority communities and those living in disadvantaged areas.
Since the start of the project the team has recorded a ten per cent reduction in all casualties.
Councillor John Bevan, cabinet member for housing, environment and conservation, said: "This reduction in casualties is due to the hard work and dedication of our road safety education officers and the innovative approach they have taken towards improving road safety.
"Through working with the mosque, the local community and other partners they have managed to get the message home to take care on our roads, saving lives and preventing the distress that accidents cause."
