AN aspiring young fashion designer from Muswell Hill is set to showcase his latest clothing collection at an upcoming fashion show.
Brett Russell who lives in The Avenue, Muswell Hill, will stage his fashion creations at the MAD Mentors evening at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in Piccadilly, London.
The event, being held on April 30, will showcase works from a number of talented youngsters from across London. The best students of the night will then be chosen to undertake work experience placements with some of the top names in the design industry.
Now on his fifth collection, 16-year-old Brett has already made a mark in the cut-throat world of fashion.
In 2008 he won the Fashion Diversity Competition and in 2009 he took home the Black Diamond Award for best designer. His work has been showcased on Fashion TV and the Rich Mix catwalk.
Currently studying for his GCSEs at Highgate Wood School, Brett has dreams of one day studying at the fashion academy Central St Martin’s and cites Zac Posen, Alexander McQueen and Vivian Westwood as his inspirations.
He said: “For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a fashion designer. I draw inspiration from everything and everywhere.
“My last collection was inspired by the hour glass figure of women, so I designed clothes to suit this shape.”
When asked when collection number six would be revealed, Brett said with his GCSE exams approaching, study would have to come first.
