SLEEP deprived residents of Crouch End at the end of the tether due to noisy buses running round the clock had a reason to celebrate this week.

A campaign led by their ward councillors has resulted in Arriva buses running the 41 bus route being scheduled to have new brake pads fitted which significantly reduces noise levels.

Frustrated residents had penned several letters outlining the sleepless nightmare the continuous screeching from bus brakes was causing.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Lyn Weber, praised the bus operator for agreeing to the community's demands.

Cllr Weber, Liberal Democrat environmental services spokesperson, said: "Residents have been plagued by the noise of screeching brakes for sometime and this has all too often kept them awake at night. I am extremely pleased Arriva have listened to residents’ concerns and that they can now look forward to a peaceful nights sleep."
