Wood Green rogue shooter admits firing handgun

A ROGUE gunman who shot a passer-by as he drove through Wood Green has admitted to firing a 9mm handgun.

Aron Thomas, 23, of Holloway, shouted an expletive before shooting a man in the leg as he walked in Buller Road on February 28.

Frantic members of the public had to dive for cover as Thomas fired the handgun up to eight times, one of which struck innocent by-stander Lloyd Wisdom.

He was taken to the Whittington Hospital, in Archway, where a lodged bullet was removed.

Thomas, who was due to go on trial at the Old Bailey charged with attempted murder, pleaded guilty to the grievous bodily harm with intent and one firearms charge.

Detective Inspector Sally Jeffrey, of Operation Trident, said: "The young victim had been enjoying a night out with friends when he realised someone was firing indiscriminately at members of the public. After hearing the third shot he began to run but was shot in the leg from behind.

"Due to the substantial evidence gathered by Trident officers Aron Thomas had no choice but to plead guilty at the Old Bailey today."

Judge Anthony Leonard will sentence Thomas on October 6, 2010.
