SPURS chairman Daniel Levy could meet with Government ministers to discuss the club's future at White Hart Lane in a deal brokered by David Lammy.

The Tottenham MP is desperate to see the £450 million development in Northumberland Park go ahead which would bring much-needed employment, housing, regeneration and business to the area.

He today called on sports minister Hugh Robertson to meet with him and Mr Levy to comb through any possibility of funding for the project after the Premiership club said it was no longer financially viable.

It triggered the club's failed bid for the Olympic stadium in Stratford which is on track to become the new home of West Ham United after London 2012.

Mr Robertson said: "The short answer is yes, of course I will. I have met Mr Lammy a number of times during the bidding process and I have also made an offer through the Tottenham board to see whether I can do anything to help."

"If there is anything I can do to help, I will do it."

Mr Lammy has been in regular contact with the Spurs chairman who said he would be keen to explore possibilities that would see his club's original plans, approved by Haringey Council in November, go ahead.

The club is yet to make the case why the Northumberland Park Development in its current state is no longer practical, four months after the council's decision to grant planning permission.

The Labour politician said: "It is integral to the future of Tottenham that Spurs redevelop White Hart Lane into a world class stadium. It will create thousands of jobs in the part of the capital with the highest rate of unemployment and it will be a huge economic boost.

"It is a huge source of pride in our community and we want to see Spurs play and win against the best teams in Europe in one of the best stadiums in Europe."

He added: "It is essential that all parties involved – the club, the local council, the mayor and the Government – work together to deliver this scheme that will not only benefit Tottenham residents, but the hundreds of thousands of Tottenham fans across London and the world."
