MORE than 2,500 have signed a petition urging the Mayor of London to improve safety for cyclists after the death of a South Tottenham student.

Paula Jurek, 20, was killed when she was knocked off her bike by a lorry turning left in Camden.

The London Metropolitan University student's death has sparked a campaign - led by friend Paul Dean - to introduce more safety measures for cyclists on the capital's roads.

An online petition has called for more "Trixi" mirrors mounted at junctions, which give greater visibility to lorry drivers.

The petition suggests Mayor Boris Johnson held a review into the mirrors but has since “stalled” on introducing more.

The petition also calls on Mr Johnson to back better training for cyclists and more cycle routes through Camden.

Transport for London came under attack after Ms Jurek's death, on April 5, from Camden councillors, who called the stretch of Camden Road where the accident happened “death mile”.

But TfL rejected the notion it had stalled on improving safety and vowed to incorporate any findings from the investigation into Ms Jurek's death into their ongoing improvements to Camden Road.
