MORE than 2,000 people enjoyed a winter festival in Harringay over the weekend set up by local traders.
An ice rink for children was temporarily installed in the grounds of South Harringay Junior School in Mattison Road, just off Green Lanes, along with a Christmas village full of stalls from businesses.
And a 22-seat vintage mobile cinema, built in 1967, entertained parents with a 1974 film predicting the future for the borough and an independent animation by children.
Secretary of Harringay Traders Assocation, Rob Chau, said that the event, which followed the Green Lanes Food Festival in the summer, was “absolutely brilliant”.
He added: “The ice rink was at capacity for both days and we're still trying to recover from how busy it was.
“It was great that the weather held out – it was cold but it didn't rain and the feedback has been fantastic.”
On Friday, chairman of the Green Lanes Strategy Group, Councillor Nilgun Canver, switched on a virtual Christmas tree image that is being projected onto the side of the Salisbury pub.
Both festivals were funded by a £99,000 grant from Mayor of London Boris Johnson's Outer London Fund that aims to regenerate high streets, and Mr Chau said that he hoped the group could secure funding for the events to continue in 2013.
