Derelict tennis court transformed into hospital garden

A derelict hospital tennis court has been transformed into a sensory garden thanks to money raised by the community.

Patients, staff and community groups spent six years raising more than £98,000 to build a garden for patients at the Whittington Hospital in Archway.

The garden, which was previously an unused tennis court and home to old skips and crates, has been planted with grasses, shrubs and climbing plants to cheer up the area.

There is also space for the children at the school in the hospital to grow flowers in the beds at the side of the new garden.

A team of helpers from company Febreze visited the garden on Thursday to help finish the transformation.

The company have also donated an extra £15,000 to help with the garden’s upkeep over the coming years.

Although the garden is open for patients, staff at the hospital would like to raise an extra £8,000 to install a decorative stain glass window in the garden.
