Church blesses pets in unique service Church blesses pets in unique service

A rector will bless the borough’s pets today in a rather unique church service in Hornsey.

Father Bruce Batstone will lead the service in St Mary’s Tower in Hornsey High Street, which will be dedicated to pets of all shapes of sizes.

The service, which starts at 3pm, will consist of bible readings as well as hymns and reflections.

Fr Bruce, who is an animal lover himself and has a Terrier called Tilly, said: “It is all about celebrating the love that the pets show and the love that we show for our pets.

“I have got a dog so I know how important animals are to us, but it is a really good way to encourage people to a service at the church who may not otherwise think about coming.”

Fr Bruce, who is new to the parish, is expecting cats, dogs, rabbits and hamsters to attend but also believes a snake or two could make an appearance.
