Life-size inflatable Stonehenge coming to Alexandra Palace
4:33pm Tuesday 26th June 2012 in News By Hermione Wright
People will get the chance to bounce on the unusual sculpture in Ally Pally this August.
A life-size inflatable Stonehenge may not be the first thing people expect to see in the grounds of Alexandra Palace.
However, energetic people will get the chance to bounce all over the massive sculpture, which will become part of the scenery on August 10.
The unusual blow-up work, called Sacrilege, is by Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller, and will tour 25 locations across the country as part of the London 2012 Festival.
The work is part of the Mayor of London’s programme of free events this summer to drum up excitement for the Olympic Games.
London Mayor Boris Johnson said: “Jeremy Deller's Sacrilege is a wonderfully witty, quite literal leap into that history and a fantastic example of the irreverence that are hallmarks of our great British humour and our incomparable artists.
“I have no doubt it will be a great hit with Londoners as well as visitors to the capital.”
