Social worker visits Cambodia to meet sponsored child

A social worker has visited a child she sponsors in Cambodia through the help of an anti-poverty charity.
Simone Liederer of Roslin Road, south Tottenham has sponsored 11-year-old Phavetey for more than 3 years now and visited her village in Cambodia.
She said: “It was great to finally meet Phavetey to put a face to the name and to see how they live.”
The 36-year-old described the journey as “stressful but definitely worth it.”
International charity Action Aid which aided Simone in her trip. The charity's aim is to end hunger and promote education in various deprived countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas.
The main problems facing rural children in Cambodia are issues surrounding healthcare and education after years of political strife.
Simone urged other people in Haringey to follow her lead and sponsor a child.
She said: “It wasn’t a question of ‘can I afford this?’ But rather ‘I should have done this a long time ago.’"
