A community plan designed to save the historic market at Wards Corner will be launched at a public meeting this week.

The Wards Corner Community Coalition (WCC) will be hosting the meeting on Thursday evening to show their plans to save the historic market in Seven Sisters.

The WCC proposals are an alternative to developer Grainger PLC's plans to demolish buildings on the site and replace them with residential and commercial buildings which were granted planning permission by Haringey Council Last month.

At the meeting WCC will put forward plans proposing the restoration and redevelopment of the historic building which will keep the existing market, and provide new retail space and community areas.

The community coalition has been working with architectural designer Abigail Stevenson to create the plans.

She said: “A community-led alternative would be much better and more appropriate.

“Architecture is not just about building buildings. You have to engage with people, because if people aren't on board with your ideas, they're not going to work.”

The Community Plan has been submitted to Haringey Council, but will be publically launched at Tottenham Chances, in High Road, Tottenham, at 7pm on Thursday July 26.
