Water in Tottenham High Road was "like a river" after burst water main

A burst water main left an entire road under water in the early hours of this morning.

The main is believed to have ruptured just befor 4am, on High Road, in South Tottenham between the junctions for Seven Sisters Road and St Ann's Road.

Water was up to eight inches deep in the High Road and some residential roads nearby were also flooded with some cars left stranded in the deep water.

Thames Water is currently working at the scene to fix the problem which has caused extensive damage to the road and pavement.

Rodger Mussett, who lives in Stonebridge Court said: “We arrived back early this morning and round the back and front of the building there was water everywhere.

“Out the front on the High Road it was like a river. It was flowing down the road pretty quickly. It was quite a shock to come home that.”

Alison Bird of Seacote Court, High Road, said: “I came out of my house at about 2 o’clock in the morning and just both sides of the street raised up.

“It was crazy. At first I thought there had been an accident but then I noticed the road was buckled in the middle. There was just so much water coming outand it was quite worrying.”

Some people living near the burst main have reported having problems with water in their homes.

The High Road is still closed in both directions between Seven Sisters Road and Ann's Road as work crews carry out emergency repairs to the road.

There is heavy congestion on the A503 Broad Lane to Tottenham Hale Gyratory with bus routes 76, 149, 243, 318, 349, 476 and N73 all on diversion.
