Shoppers turn out to support Harringay Market

Nearly 100 people visited Harringay Market yesterday to show their support for the traders.

The visitors formed a “cashmob”, each arriving with £10 to spend in the market, which takes place at North Harringay Primary School, in Falkland Road, each Sunday.

The event was organised on social media sites in an attempt to give the market’s traders a financial boost, to make people aware of the market, and to improve social capital in the area.

The market, which sees 30 traders selling local produce each week, opened its doors for the first time on June 24.

It is run by Jessica Vos, of Allison Road, and sells everything from fruit and vegetables to jams and cakes.

Ms Vos said: "It was a really successful event. It was really good.

"It was really nice to see so many people. We were worried that no one would come as it was raining.

"Events like this are really important to us as we are still new so need to spread the word."
