Blind man from hornsey to run fundraising stall in Wood Green Sainsbury's for The Haringey Phoenix Group

A blind man will be running a stall selling goods made by blind and partially sighted people on Wednesday.

Jagdish Tank, 55, from Hornsey, will be running the stall at Sainsbury’s in Wood Green High Street from 2pm until 4pm.

Mr Tank, who is chairman of The Haringey Phoenix Group, a charity which supports the blind and partially sighted, will be selling pottery, arts and crafts, jewellery and knitwear.

All of the proceeds from the stall will go towards helping the charity, which is currently based in Winkfield Road, Wood Green, fund a move to a new building.

Mr Tank, who lost his sight in 1997, said: “The Haringey Phoenix Group is very important to me so I want to do everything I can to support it.

“When I lost my sight I thought I had lost everything but this charity gave me my life back.”

In the last year Mr Tank, who is originally from Kenya, has raised more than £14,000 for the Wood Green charity.

The stall is being located at Wood Green’s Sainsbury’s as The Haringey Phoenix Trust is its charity of the year.

Sainsbury’s is trying to raise £1,000 to provide the charity with new computer software designed to be used by blind and partially sighted people.
