New community garden in West Green unveiled at party held by Fountain Area Residents' Association
4:28pm Wednesday 26th September 2012 in News By Emma Innes
A party is being held to unveil a new community garden in West Green.
On October 13 the newly revamped Ramp on West Green Road will be unveiled.
Local people have spent four years working on the area which used to be notorious for muggings, fly tipping and drug dealing.
The work, which was carried out using a £50,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund, has included planting trees and building flower beds.
The volunteers, mainly members of the Fountain Area Residents’ Association, have transformed the area from a neglected ramped area used to get to and from some houses to a safe and attractive garden.
As the work is drawing to an end the residents’ association is throwing the party where there will be a children’s entertainer, face painting, food and drinks from 3pm.
The Ramp will be officially opened by Councillor Isidoros Diakides.
The grand unveiling will be followed by an after party from 7pm at the Fountain pub on West Green Road.
Entry will be free and there will be live music.
