A Haringey charity which works to improve the lives of minority groups has won a Europe-wide award.

The JAN Trust, based in Bedford Road, Wood Green, was awarded the prize for Highly Commended Community Project at the European Diversity Awards which took place on September 20.

The charity, which was founded in 1989, aims to improve the lives of black, Asian, minority ethnic, refugee and asylum seeking women and youth by empowering them.

It is working towards providing free educational services for these groups as well as raising awareness of hate crimes and forced marriages.

The JAN Trust was presented with its award at a ceremony at the Savoy hotel in central London.

The European Diversity Awards aim to celebrate organisations and individuals that have shown innovation, creativity and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
