New chief executive 'excited' about new role New chief executive 'excited' about new role

Haringey Council’s new chief executive says he is excited about his role which was announced yesterday evening.

Nick Walkley, was appointed as the borough’s new chief executive following the unanimous decision by a cross-party recruitment panel.

Mr Walkley is currently chief executive of neighbouring Barnet Council, but it was announced last night that he would be resigning from the role.

In a statement he said: “I am hugely excited by the opportunity to take up this role with Haringey Council and I am committed to working with all councillors to address the many challenges facing local government.”

The authority has been on the lookout for a new chief executive following the sudden departure of Kevin Crompton in June, after just two years in the job.

Mr Walkley’s start date has yet to be confirmed and his appointment is subject to ratification by Full Council which is due to meet on Tuesday, October, 16.

Excited about becoming new chief executive of Haringey Council, even more than his predecessor, Kevin Crompton? This sounds artificial. He will soon be conditioned enough to fit into a retrograde culture, a stony mould.. He must only get excited if he thinks he has got what it takes to change it, above all, by getting rid of the old guard, who do the conditioning. Reflect on that.
