New Haringey CEO Nick Walkley has taken an £11,000 pay cut with his move from neighbouring authority Barnet.

His new employers confirmed the chief executive, who enjoys a £200,000-a-year salary at Barnet, would be paid £189,000 in his new role.

Critics of the One Barnet programme, which Mr Walkley has worked on with the current administration, have accused him of ‘jumping ship’.

If it's true that the new chief executive has accepted a pay cut, and that's not just something for public consumption, then straightaway must come up for similar treatment the innumerable managers, particularly those with exotic job titles. They have for too long been paid more than what they do really warrants. Surely now they can wait for high prosperity to happen again when New Labour come into power with the Midas touch. By the way, I want to know how much of what the former chief executive departed with came out of my Council Tax.
