A man who sent a hoax bomb to Turkey to disrupt his sister’s wedding was sentenced to four and a half years today.
Hasan Aydemir, 28, of Allington Avenue, Tottenham, was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court after pleading not guilty to making the fake bomb.
The court heard how Aydemir sent the parcial via a UPS office in Camdem, on March 17, 2011, to the wedding hall in Gungoren, Turkey, where his sister was due to be married three days later.
Aydemir had been in a family dispute about his sister’s wedding and hoped to disrupt the service by sending the device which was to be left on the top table ceremony.
However the packag was inspected when it reached Ataturk Airport by a customs officers.
Inside they had found a device made to look like a bomb with a clock, pieces of different coloured wire and putty.
The item was then declared a hoax after bomb disposal experts were called in.
Aydemir was later arrested on March 23, 2011, following an investigation by the Counter Terrorism Command team of the Met Police.
