New support scheme for victims of gang violence in Haringey

Young women who have been victims of gang exploitation can now get support from a new service in the borough.

The service includes a dedicated support worker who will offer help to young people involved in domestic abuse, relationship abuse and sexual violence.

They will work with schools and social workers in Haringey as well as one-on-one with young women who fear they might suffer sexual violence from gangs or who have been exploited by them.

It is hoped with the new support service will find the extent of risks to women in the borough who cannot see a way out of gang culture.

Funding for the new service was secured with the Safer London Foundation and five other London councils including Haringey, Enfield Islington and Camden and Hackney.
