MP backs campaign to prevent sorting office closure MP backs campaign to prevent sorting office closure

The MP for Hornsey and Wood Green has thrown her weight behind a campaign to stop the closure of postal sorting offices.

Lib Dem MP Lynne Featherstone says plans to close the Hornsey Sorting Office, in Tottenham Lane, would make it harder for people to collect their parcels and registered post.

She has also pushed for collection points across the borough, which are also earmarked for closure, to be saved.

She said: “This issue is incredibly important to local residents. If the current plans go ahead, there will certainly be more losers than winners. It is vital that Royal Mail takes another look at these unfeasible plans.

“The Haringey Liberal Democrats and I are fighting hard to save the sorting offices and keep services truly local. I encourage all residents to sign the petitions, to show royal mail the strength of feeling on this issue.”

Last week Liberal Democrats in the borough launched a petition to stop the closure which has received more than 1,000 signatures.

This is a great opportunity for those who watch helplessly when big concerns interfere with their services to join in and show them that they are not mere push-overs. Lynne Featherstone is never afraid to head a movement like this. The power and influence of the big shots scare her not, unlike others who hold back, wondering which side their bread is buttered.
