An animal charity is calling for pet owners to ask for advice after a cat and her five kittens were found dumped in zipped up suitcase.

All six of the cats were found by a member of the public and are believed to have been left for dead in the Broadwater Farm Estate, Tottenham on Tuesday last week.

The cats were taken to the Wood Green Animal Charity, in Lordship Lane, where staff say their doors are always open to people despite waiting lists for the home being full.

Centre Manager Kate Wickins said: “It was simply unnecessary for the cat and her kittens to be left in a zipped up suitcase with no access to food or water. It was lucky they were not all dead when they were found.

“We would like to stress that while our waiting lists are full and we can’t always take cats and kittens in immediately, our doors are always open for advice and support.”

The cats were checked over by the vet and one kitten had to be put down due to poor health.

On Monday two more kittens were found dumped in a handbag in High Road, Wood Green and taken into care.
