Families from across the borough enjoyed a day of fun to celebrate World Mental Health Day.

More than 200 children, parents and carers came together at community events at the Broadwater Farm Children’s Centre, in Adams Road, Tottenham, and the Ladder Children’s Centre, in Pemberton Road.

Families enjoyed a number of activities including face painting, music, art and gardening to raise awareness of mental health issues.

At the Ladder Children’s Centre, children took part in storytelling and drumming sessions.

And at Broadwater Farm Children’s Centre, Psychiatrist and Aikido instructor Dr Reenee Barton demonstrated her martial arts skills.

The two events were hosted by Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust raise awareness of World Mental Health Day on October 10.

It's desperately sad that Victoria Climbie and Baby P had not had the attention they needed to be still alive today to enjoy these events. Remembering them to these children, parents and carers on an occasion like this would have served a far better purpose than a demonstration of martial arts skills..

Great story. It's always good to read about community engagement - can really make a difference. Nice to hear some really positive stuff going on in Haringey, and that mental health getting the attention in deserves.
