Essential work to bring Alexandra Palace back to its former glory has begun.

Work is being carried out on the South Terrace, East Buildings and Victorian Theatre roof and are being partly funded by English Heritage and Alexandra Palace Trust.

Chief executive of Alexandra Palace and Park, Duncan Wilson said: “We are delighted that we are able to make a start on our programme of repair and restoration of the Palace.

“These significant works will enable us to bring derelict space within the palace back to life and to restore our external appearance.

“This initial repair work demonstrates our commitment to restoring the historic fabric of the palace and will help us realise our long-term vision of a sustainable palace and park.”

The work will be part of Ally Pally’s regeneration work which include plans for a hotel and the refurbishment of the Victorian theatre on the site.

It is hoped the work will be complete by the summer of this year.
