Children in schools around the borough will soon be able to learn about Alexandra Palace’s little-known role in the First World War.

Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust has secured £59,400 in financial backing from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

It will tell the story about how the site was first as an encampment for displaced Belgian refugees and later as an internment camp for German and Austrian prisoners of war.

The programme will be rolled out at the start of next year and will be run in partnership with the University of Middlesex, the Imperial War Museum and Bruce Castle Museum.
