An Aldenham school commemorated D-Day with a service focusing on sacrifice and remembrance.

Aldenham School's chaplain Padre Simon Chapman spoke about the "enormous contributions" made by past pupils of the Aldenham Road school to ensure a successful outcome to the Second World War.

The war memorial in the school’s chapel lists 116 names, including Lieutenant Trevor Tooley, who was killed on D-Day itself.

Lt Tooley was serving with the 1st Suffolk Regiment, which went on to secure a farmhouse, where they dug in before moving out to make contact with the enemy again the following day.

Headmaster James Fowler said: "The school has always had strong associations with the military but it is especially important for us to remember the connections at this particular time."
