A LIBRARY in the heart of Tottenham will be transformed with a £1 million Lottery grant.

Coombes Croft Library, in High Road, Tottenham, will be extended to stock more books and the front of the building will be completely revamped.

But the most exciting feature will be a glass viewing panel built into the pavement to give pedestrians a chance to see a brook of running water that has been uncovered.

Councillor Dhiren Basu, cabinet member for leisure, culture and lifelong learning, said: "The library is being transformed thanks to the Big Lottery Fund which will provide more space and facilities at the library – including a meeting room for community groups and areas specifically for young people."

In 2007, the library was voted one of the best in Haringey for the quality of children's books.
