A HARINGEY sixth-former who has been deaf all his life is weeks away from starting a degree at a top London university.
Rajul Alam, 18, who attended Blanche Nevile School for the Deaf as a child before moving to Fortismere School, in Muswell Hill, to be awarded an A* in ICT, as well as an A in Applied ICT and a B in maths.
The brainy student, of Curthwaite Gardens, Enfield, was supported by staff from Blanche Nevile over the two-year A level programme who helped him with communication and accessing information in the classroom.
He is now set to study for a degree in Information Management for Business at University College London.
Veronica Held, Blanche Nevile Secondary School acting headteacher, said: "Rajul has overcome some of the many difficulties and challenges facing deaf and hearing impaired people and has achieved outstanding examination results in his GCSEs and A levels.
"We're all delighted that he has won a place at university."
