Social care recruitment drive to be held at Brent Cross shopping centre this week

Shoppers in the borough will have the opportunity tomorrow to buck the trend of rising unemployment by finding out about a career in social care.

As recent figures indicate more than two million people are out of work, the Department of Health (DoH) are setting up a week of recruitment shows at Brent Cross shopping centre.

The series of events is being held with employers from the area and residents will be able to talk to them about what kind of social care positions are available.

A DoH spokeswoman said: ”Shoppers will also have an opportunity to speak to those working in the social care sector to gain a real-life insight into the rewards and benefits of caring for others.

“Social care work offers a worthwhile job that could turn into a rewarding career. Employees can make a massive difference in the community by carrying out simple tasks which have a big impact on the person they are working with.”

The nationwide recruitment campaign started on TV last month and will continue until the end of March. The event at Brent Cross will be running from this Tuesday until Sunday.

Potential jobs available range from home care assistants, to work within residential care homes. There are also a wide range of positions working with older people, children, families and people with disabilities.

Care Services Minister Phil Hope said: “If you are a passionate people person and get a kick out of helping others, a job in social care could be just the thing you are looking for.

“If you’ve had experience caring for a family member or friend and might be interested in getting paid to care for others, come along to the recruitment event and find out more.”
