Hendon 65 Osterley 0

Powergen Junior Cup second round

Hendon swept through to the third round of the national cup with a power-packed display on Saturday.

The home side dominated from the start and it wasn't long before they got on the scoreboard. Scrum-half Tony Sheehan fed a long ball to stand-off John Diviney and he crashed over, converting his own try for a seven point lead.

Richard Brantingham made it two tries soon after and Hendon raced to a 19-point lead when Ricky Patton crossed over for a well-worked try.

Sheehan inflicted more misery for the visitors when he crossed the line to score and newcomer Sean Cryan got in on the act with a try of his own five minutes before the break.

But the move of the match came when Chris Towndrow ran from the visitors' 22 and evaded five tackles before scoring for a 36-point lead at the interval.

The second period was a scrappy affair as Osterley tried in vain to get back into the game. A penalty and a converted try from Diviney piled on yet more points with the rout completed by two more tries from Brantingham and a Tony Connor effort close to the end.
