Swine flu hotline set up in Haringey

A SWINE flu hotline has been set up for Haringey residents struck down by the H1N1 virus.

Due to the growing number of cases, GPs will refer callers with suspected swine flu to a Haringey telephone "assessment centre" where they will be given information on treatment and where to pick up anti-viral drugs.

People with flu-like symptoms are being urged to not attend Accident and Emergency departments, but telephone NHS Direct or their GP by telephone for an over-the-phone diagnosis.

All schools in Haringey have re-opened under Government guidelines, which suggest that the virus has spread to such an extent that it can no longer be contained.

The Government has stated that it is possible there will be 100,000 new flu cases a day in the UK by the end of August.
