Council tax frozen for people in Haringey

People living in Haringey will not face a rise in council tax after members agreed to freeze rates.

The announcement by Haringey Borough Council today marks the fourth year in a row the tax has been frozen.

The agreement for the freeze was made at a meeting of the council cabinet this week as part of the 2013/14 budget.

Cabinet member for finance councillor Joe Goldberg said: ““Haringey residents are facing the reality of record high energy bills, salary freezes and government cuts to benefits including child benefit and working tax credits.

“To add a council tax rise to these spiralling living costs would be a hammer blow to many.

“While the money we collect from council tax is vital in helping to cover the costs of the many services we offer residents – from recycling and street cleaning to libraries and parks – we are committed to doing what we can to shield local families from the impact of the recession.”

The plans will be ratified by the full council in February next year.
