Street charity fundraisers in Haringey face tougher restrictions

Charity fundraisers who hit the streets of town centres around the borough will soon face tougher restrictions.

Haringey Borough Council has announced it will be signing up with the Public Fundraising Regulatory Authority to make sure fundraisers, called chuggers, do not become a nuisance.

The new rules will mean chuggers will not be allowed to follow someone for more than three steps and stand within three meters of a shop doorway, cashpoint, pedestrian crossing or station entrance.

The council hope the new rules will mean people will be able to go to the shops without being ambushed by sometimes forceful fundraisers.

This is so petty! We're supposed to be the Big Society. Grants to Charities has fallen drastically in the past 2 years and now they want to restrict how they raise their meagre funds too! Leave Charities alone. They need all the help they can get.
