A group of gardeners have been awarded for creating a “place of beauty” in Tottenham.

Martin Burrows and Keith Shellcross picked up the award on behalf of the Back2Earth Harmony Garden of Broadwater Farm, which received a joint runner-up award in The Conservation Foundation’s 2013 Gardening Against The Odds Award.

Conservationist David Bellamy handed over the award, which honours “ordinary gardeners who triumph over odds to create a place of beauty that brightens the lives of others”.

The Back2Earth Harmony Garden encourages people to get involved in planting and help make use of their environment.

As well as lending a helping hand in the vegetable garden, people can also take part in workshops to learn new gardening skills.

The Back2Earth Harmony Garden was among nine winners at the awards ceremony, which was held in the Great Conservatory of Syon House, home of The Duchess of Northumberland.
