A Catholic school is celebrating another year of strong A-level results.

Pupils at St Thomas More School, in Glendale Avenue, Tottenham, this year earned a pass rate for A levels at 98 per cent, a 100 per cent tally for BTEC courses.

There has also been a rise in passes at grades A* to C to 85 per cent, but the school's percentage of A* to B grades fell from last year to 44 per cent.

Head of the school Mark Rowland heaped praise on students Howard Barugahare, Brooke Simon and Jiang Jingcheng, who all received AAB grades.

Mr Rowland expressed his delighted for Tom Stanford, Augustine Stevens and Andre Odetola for their sporting achievements gaining three distinctions in their Sport BTEC course.

He said: “A significant contributor to the outstanding results of the school is the strong partnership-working between staff and parents.  We are a traditional sixth form and we supervise and direct our students.  We rely heavily on the support of parents to work with us."

Nonetheless, head of sixth form Winnie Greer said: “I am so pleased that all of our students who are seeking university places have succeeded in meeting the terms of their offers.”

There has also been a doubling of the entries to the sixth form this year.

Executive headteacher Martin Tissot praised the work of Ms Greer and Sixth Form team.  He said, “The increase in admissions to the sixth form is a direct result of the improvements put in place under Ms Greer’s leadership.”
