Work on the new Spurs stadium will be delayed further after the last remaining landowner on the site challenged a government minister's decision forcing it to move.

In a statement issued today, Tottenham Hotspur FC says the planned stadium is now “highly unlikely” to be ready for the start of the 2017/2018 season.

Archway Sheet Metal Works Ltd will challenge a Secretary of State's recent decision that their business must move aside for the building work to begin.

Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, granted Haringey Council permission to issue a Compulsory Purchase Order on Archway’s property in July.

The Josif family, who own the metalwork business, have now announced they will challenge Mr Pickles’s decision in the High Court. A date for the hearing has not yet been set.

Spurs has also confirmed it will move away from White Hart Lane for at least one season while the new stadium is built, but have not yet said where the club will move to.

A spokesman for the club said: “We are currently undertaking due diligence on alternative stadium options. Consideration needs to be given to several factors, including planning and policing and, importantly, our fans and the impact it may have on the team itself.

“Clearly all possible options have pros and cons and we are aware that we shall not be able to find one which will please all parties.

"We shall however seek to find the optimum solution for the club and our supporters and we shall be sharing our deliberations with our supporters at an appropriate time."
