Haringey’s gardeners triumphed in the London in Bloom awards as the borough scooped a silver medal.

Judges from the London-wide competition visited in July to inspect the work of green-fingered groups such as Friends of Harringay Passage, The Sunshine Garden Centre, Ducketts Common and Alexandra Palace.

Along with the overall award, Bruce Castle Park won silver-gilt in the large park of the year category, Coldfall Wood took silver in large conservation site, and The Gardens’ Residents Association was rated outstanding.

Councillor Stuart McNamara, cabinet member for environment, said: “This is fantastic recognition of the work done by residents, community groups and volunteers, as well as the council, to make our borough a brighter and nicer place to live and work.

“Well done to all the gardeners who took part and let’s continue beautifying our borough, so that next year we can go for gold.”
