Three shop fronts on West Green Road have been given startling make-overs.

Portuguese restaurant Bom Pecado, property agents ABBA and Uncle John’s Bakery have been redesigned by Tottenham-based creative firm Make-Room, Tom Ebdon Architects and design firm Mountain.

The redesigns, commissioned by Haringey Council, are part of a pilot scheme that the council hopes to continue with help from Greater London Authority funding.

Callista St Omer, who has managed ABBA for 12 years, said: “West Green Road is great place to be, everyone says hello and there’s a real community.

“Our shop front was looking very outdated. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted but I told the architect we needed some colour to liven up the place. We wanted something eye-catching, and we got it.”

Councillor Alan Strickland, cabinet member for regeneration and housing, said the new designs aimed to encourage people to spend their money in local businesses.

He said: “Tottenham has a wealth of high-quality independent shops, and we’re determined to do all we can to bring more investment to help them succeed and make more people aware of what’s on their doorstep.”

Megan Beck, director of Make-Room, said: “We were delighted to work with local, long-standing businesses on this project.

“The business owners were really receptive to our ideas which meant we were able to be quite creative on a small budget.”
