World Mental Health Day was celebrated on Friday as a week of events aiming to reduce the stigma of poor mental health drew to a close.

The Mental Health Support Association (MHSA), based in Tottenham, joined forces with the council to put together activities ranging from a football tournament to art exhibition.

Tottenham MP David Lammy, Councillor Peter Morton and Director of Public Health Dr Janelle De Gruchy visited the 639 Centre as part of an information afternoon attended by mental health charities.

Nuala Kiely, of the MHSA, said: “We’re so excited that lots of events took place. This really shows how people can work together to reduce the stigma attached to mental illness.”
