A Haringey woman is asking politicians to pledge to reduce poverty in the developing world.

Zainab Ali Khan, 22, of Cleveland Gardens, is an intern for anti-poverty campaign group ONE and is calling for election hopefuls in Tottenham and Hornsey & Wood Green to act on the promise if they are elected.

Her efforts are part of ONE’s Just Say Yes campaign, which asks would-be MPs to commit to helping the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease particularly in Africa.

Green Party candidate for Tottenham Dee Searle has already signed the pledge and Ms Khan will be asking MP for Tottenham David Lammy to sign on Tuesday April 21 at a hustings.

Ms Khan said: “This is a really important issue to people my age and we want decision makers to recognise this.

"I’ve always been interested in campaigning for equality and international development, I care deeply about the issues and devoted a lot of time to campaigning whilst studying at university.

"It’s incredibly exciting to now be working with the campaign and advocacy group ONE who grew out of the Make Poverty History movement."

ONE members and Youth Ambassadors across the country are meeting their constituency candidates up and down the country ahead of election day inviting them to ‘Just Say Yes’.
